Privacy notice

This privacy notice supports the General Data Protection Regulation that came into force in May 2018. It explains the information I may gather from you when you contact me and what I may do with that information. The information I may ask for and hold about you is so that I can provide you with a safe and professional service.

I hold registration with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

I am also an Accredited Professional Registrant of the National Counselling Society (NCS).

Collecting your information
I may collect your personal information when you contact me through this website, via my practice mobile or through a therapist directory listing.

When you make an enquiry using the contact form on this website, it is not accessible to the website host, Webhealer, or stored on their system. It does mean you authorise me to contact you back and peruse any further information you may voluntarily provide.

When you contact me, I may collect the following information from you:

  • Your full name
  • Date of birth, address and phone number
  • Email address
  • GP details
  • Any mental health needs
  • Your preferred method of communication for counselling, e.g. Zoom, FaceTime or WhatsApp.

    If we decide to proceed with counselling, I may create and collect online documents such as:

  • A copy of a signed working agreement
  • A copy of a signed data consent form
  • Client notes.

    Client notes are brief notes I may make after each counselling session.

    I may use your information for the following:

  • To respond to your enquiry and questions
  • To arrange appointments with you
  • To establish a working agreement with you
  • To comply with ethical and legal requirements
  • To seek feedback on your experience of counselling with me.

    I publish testimonials on this website from time to time. A testimonial usually includes a first name or initials only. I do not include a testimonial on this website unless I have consent to do so.

    Protecting your information
    I will do my utmost to protect your information.

    Your information will be stored in folders on a personal password-protected computer and backed up using OneDrive. I also have McAfee Total Protection installed on my device.

    Signed documents and client notes will be kept separate from your personal and contact details.

    Your phone number will be on my practice mobile and protected using a passcode and Face ID.

    Sharing your information
    I regard your information as strictly confidential unless it's an exceptional circumstance such as:

  • I have significant concerns about your safety and wellbeing or the safety and wellbeing of others, including a child or young person
  • You infer knowledge of or involvement in acts of terrorism, drug trafficking or money laundering
  • I have a legal obligation to disclose (court subpoena).

    Wherever possible, I would discuss such matters with you and seek to gain your consent to share information with the relevant agency/professional.

    I regularly consult with a counselling supervisor - this is a requirement for all practising counsellors, yet I will never reveal your identity to them.
